Reporting to the Office Manager, the Lead Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to the residents of Broderick Street Residential Care Facility, utilizing professional culinary standards to ensure quality and safety in food preparation, serving and sanitation of the kitchen.
Essential Responsibilities include:
- Prepare daily meals and snacks.
- Responsible for the proper storage of food supplies and of kitchen equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness, sanitary conditions and good working order of the kitchen, reach-in refrigerator, walk-in refrigerator & freezer, dining rooms, food and kitchen storage areas.
- Perform Kitchen/cafeteria set-up.
- Serve and deliver meals in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Prepare dishes for dishwasher and operate dishwasher; organize dishes in cupboards.
- Clean and sanitize cooking equipment and work areas to the standards set by the Health Department; ensure equipment is in good working condition.
- Maintain high standards in quality of food products, food service, safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, and work performance.
- Demonstrate good communication between kitchen co-workers and provide excellent customer service to our client residents.
- Work cooperatively with other departments to meet the special needs of the clients.
- Strictly observe health and safety practices.
- Support menu development and food purchasing, as needed.
- Attend and participate in staff trainings, staff meetings, and staff development activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge and training in proper food handling, meal preparation, and sanitation.
- Current ServSafe certification.
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds, to stand throughout the day, to bend, twist, and work in extreme temperatures, i.e. kitchen or walk-in freezer.
- Health, TB, and background (Live Scan fingerprinting) clearances; First Aid, and any other mandatory State/Fed requirements upon hire
- Ability to understand, create, and interpret written and verbal instructions and effectively communicate to staff, other health care team members, and residents.
- High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience as a Cook in a nursing &/or residential care facility.
- Working knowledge of nutrition, menu planning, food ordering, kitchen management, safety standard, budgeting.
- Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and multi-task.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact professionally with a diverse, multi-cultural, & interdisciplinary staff at all levels.
- Strong commitment to the philosophy, goals, & mission of RAMS in providing community-based, culturally competent, and consumer-guided mental health services to underserved populations
